If you’ve visited Nipika Mountain Resort anytime during the past 15 years, you will have undoubtedly met Rufus and possibly skied or hiked with him.
Lyle Wilson, the owner of Nipika, is a dog-lover and a very kind man and took Rufus in when he showed up as a stray. I met Rufus for the first time in Feb 2004 and I always looked forward to seeing him on all subsequent visits.
Rufus was a gentle, mellow dog and sported a beautiful auburn coat. He sometimes would show up at our cabin just looking to hang out with our dog. Nobody really knows how old he was, but during our last visit in March 2014, Rufus had slowed down considerably. He was sticking pretty close to the meadow and I didn’t see his usual enthusiasm to go skiing.
I know that for me, it will seem like something is missing from Nipika.
You can read more on Facebook. Below are some photos which I’ve taken over the years at Nipika.
This incredibly thoughtful tribute to Rufus brought tears to my eyes, and I am not even a dog owner. Thank you for sharing these photos on the internet for all who have been to Nipika and had known him.
