I was happy to read this trip report from Bev:
“This afternoon Canmore Nordic Centre groomed the section leading out from the lower parking access up Banff trail. This section had snow guns on it for a very long time. The grooming joins the old Banff road (part of last week’s Alberta cup route), goes below the frozen thunder sawdust, then does a loop back. A nice addition.”
After reading Bev’s trip report, I went to the nordic centre and took a few photos this evening. From the sounds of the CNC trail report, they will have some public skiing available during the IPC World Cup.
CNC Trail Report:
Event Note: Frozen Thunder will be closed on Friday Dec 8th until 2pm and Dec 9-17th for the IPC Para-Nordic World Cup. Banff Trail will be partially closed (Dates TBA).
Cross Country Alberta has posted 158 action shots of the Alberta Cup races from the past weekend at the Canmore Nordic Centre.
Does this mean the Nordic Center is closed in the evening as well from the 9-17th and is unavailable for any skiing at all? Or just not available during the day?
I called this morning and received the following information:
After the day’s competitions are over, all the trails will be open to public skiing until 9 p.m.
During the competitions, there will be a limited amount of terrain on Banff trail open to the public except on the days when they are using Banff trail for the sit-ski races. They haven’t got the exact dates for the sit-ski races yet.
