Update Apr 13: Most of the trails at MT Shark have been groomed over the past two days.
The man-made snow trails at Canmore Nordic Centre were groomed this morning.
PLPP grooming early this morning included Elk Pass, Hydroline, Tyrwhitt and Blueberry Hill. The temperature at Boulton Creek this morning is -5 with an expected high of +3 and some wet snow. The trail report made these remarks…
April 11th: The south end of the PLPP ski trails received 5 to 10cm’s of snow on Wednesday, and moist flurries returned in the early hours of Thursday morning. At 6AM, about a cm of snow had fallen in the Elk Pass parking lot during the grooming period, with more snow falling at higher elevations. Expect some fresh snow on most, if not all, of the new grooming.
Skied there a few days ago. Icy in the morning, very soft in the afternoon. Natural snow trails are finished, so not many kms groomed which means doing laps to log a decent mileage. Surprisingly little debris. Sidewalls of the tracks were corn snow which softened quickly and were skied out by mid-aft. The bottom of the tracks consisted of ice granules but with some fresh snow mixed in, so there was grip to be had on fishscales, even in the morning. There is a magic period of about 2 hours between ice and slush – much better to get there very early to ensure you can take advantage of this. Forecast is for +12C tomorrow Thurs, but cooling off with some precip. on the weekend so maybe you will have a longer window with some more fresh snow tilled in.
Can you please tell me about the expected cross country ski conditions at Canmore Nordic Center for the Easter Weekend?
Thank you
