Ribbon Creek has snow

…and it will be packed shortly

We took a drive into K-Country today, wanting to see for ourselves which trails had snow and hoping to see some grooming. The snowfall which happened Monday night and Tuesday must have been an upslope storm, as Ribbon Creek had about 15 cm but Pocaterra only has about 8 cm. Elk Pass already had some snow before this recent storm, and now has about 15 cm.

We didn’t see any grooming happening, but word has it that Ribbon Creek will be packed by tomorrow. Keep an eye on the K-Country trail report.

I phoned in a ski report to CBC while I was out on the trail at Canmore Nordic Centre this afternoon. If Paul Karchut uses it, you’ll hear me on the Real Ski Report at 7:35 a.m tomorrow(Thur) on the Eye-opener on 1010 AM or 99.1 FM.

P.S. Ribbon Creek will definitely be on our agenda for Fri or Sat. The deli at Kananaskis Village(I think it’s called Ribbon Creek Groceries) will have their Tuscan sausage and bean soup on the menu. It’s sooo delicious.

  1. I drove to Cochrane to pick up a sled this week, was surprised at all the snow! Maybe we need to come over and ski on the east side this weekend. We got a bit more snow this week, good conditions on ML road,+ upper tram,. The Great divide is packed but still a bit thin for tracksetting due to the rough pavement. We’ve been brush cutting, shoveling and packing on the Telemark and Fairview trails but still lots of stumps sticks, and other hasards, .

  2. Bob, there is the info on the Parks Canada web-site that they did trackset on the Moraine Lake Road and Upper Tramline.
Moraine Lake Road Fair Trackset classic and skating.
Upper Tramline Fair Trackset classic. No dogs allowed

  3. hi bob
just got back from a great ski at the Nordic Center…They have rolled the Banff Trail,Meadowview, Wolf and several other connector trails, not trackset but in suprisingly great condition…the only”clink, clink” of the poles is on the rollerski paved section.
    Cheers

  4. Hi Bob,
We must have passed each other on the same snow search! Here’s what I found today: 11cm at Chester/Burstall trailheads, 12cm at Highwood Pass and nearly 25cm at the Nakiska parking lot! We toured up the Skogan Pass-Sunburst Lookout Trails and skied all the way back without even a scratch on our bases.
If the Ribbon Creek Trails get packed & rolled in the next few days, this will definitely be the place to go!
    Alf
