I’ve been taking pictures with the intention of writing a blog post but am getting behind. I’ll use this posting to get caught up.

This just came to my attention today and is urgent: Support snowmaking at Confederation Golf Course.

Help Jesse and Annika while enjoying a delicious treat

If you’re at the Farmer’s Market in Canmore on Thursdays, stop by Jesse Cockney’s and Annika Hick’s waffle stand. You will also be supporting their skiing endeavours for the coming season.

Olympian Jesse and world cup athlete Annika  are helping to pay for their upcoming ski seasons by selling waffles at local farmer’s markets. Cockney is on the Canadian national team while Hicks has returned to the Alberta World Cup Academy.

Cockney had the best result of his career last season, when he finished 10th in the Quebec City sprint as part of Ski Tour Canada, while Hicks, a distance specialist, returned to the world cup as a member of Canada’s Ski Tour Canada’s contingent. Both could end up paying more than $25,000 to ski for Canada this year, so at $5 a pop, they know they have a lot of waffles to sell.

It’s quite common to see Canada’s best xc skiers on their roller skis on the streets of Canmore during the summer.

We’ve been able to enjoy the nice weather on our deck without any mosquitoes this summer. It hasn’t been too hot, and we’ve only had occasional rain. Does anyone know what my favourite summer cocktail is? It shouldn’t be hard to guess. Hint: It has the word “snow” in it.

Biking to South America

I had the pleasure of meeting Markus Franke on the High Rockies trail yesterday. He’s biking from Prudhoe Bay Alaska, to Patagonia in South America. I originally passed him with my car on the Smith Dorrien, but when I was parked at Goat Pond, he cycled up and asked me about the High Rockies trail. Fortunately, the stretch of trail between Goat Pond and the dam was suitable for his non-suspension bike and he was able to escape the dust of the road for a while. He was all thrilled with this area, and said it has been his favourite part of the trip.
