The snow was cold, the tracks were excellent, the weather was beautiful but still cool, and I had good grip with VR45(-2/-8).
Thank goodness for Frozen Thunder, otherwise I doubt that CNC would have had any skiing available today. It’s still only 2K in length, but I couldn’t complain about the quality.
With cold temperatures over the past few days, and the snow guns going full blast, there are large mounds of snow waiting to be leveled, so it won’t be long until more terrain is open for skiing.
If you bought a season pass it is effective as of today. I’ve been enjoying the discussion on the previous blog post, Prepping for the weekend, about prices. I guess we are a bit spoiled here considering a family pass at Hardwood in Ontario is $1045. and probably with a shorter season. The Canmore Nordic Centre’s season passes are available online.
Back to my wax, it wears off quickly, so you may want to consider applying base binder or a klister base.

Thanks to Scott Taylor, we know that Moraine Lake road in Lake Louise was trackset this morning, but I hope we get some reports of the conditions, also for the Great Divide. It snowed briefly here in Canmore around 1 pm. It only amounted to a dusting, but I’m curious if it happened anywhere else.
I have to hand it to Janice Perry for predicting this momentous event when I met her on MLR yesterday. I have to admit I was skeptical. Now maybe she can tell us when we’ll be skiing on Pocaterra.

PLPP webcam will be back
Here’s an explanation from Duane…
The webcam is currently offline due to requiring repairs/replacement but rest assured that AB Parks/Kananaskis staff are working to secure a new unit with hopes of having it operational in time for the heart of the cross-country ski season.
In the interim folks may find the Kananaskis weather stations, which we’ve recently put online, (http://www.avalanche.ca/map) to be extremely useful in terms of new snow, total snow depths and recent temperatures. To find the plots simply zoom in on the map and find the most appropriate location. While most of the stations are at higher elevations than the Peter Lougheed Facility Zone cross-country ski trails, the Mud Lake plot (http://www.avalanche.ca/map?panel=weather-stations%2F3) is close to the Chester Lake Day Use area and provides a decent point of reference.
Happy Trails,
Duane
