More trails open at Lake Louise

-The Campground loop at Lake Louise is dog-friendly and has a skating lane-

It was delightful to ski on some new trails today. Tramline from top to bottom is in great shape, the Campground loop where you can also skate is excellent,
and Fairview, well, two out of three isn’t bad.

Thank you to Bev and Aaron for today’s trip reports which overlap with my report. The groomer must have changed his mind about tracksetting on Fairview and did it anyway. In the final analysis, he was correct, it was much too bumpy to trackset.

I started at the Chateau parking lot and as predicted yesterday, Fairview was trackset. Air and snow temperature were both -6°C, so easy waxing with Swix VR40(-4/-12) and a dab of VR45(-2/-8) mixed in.

Fairview, on the new tracks, is fun as long as you’re on flat terrain or going uphill. Depending on your perspective and skiing ability, coming down the hills could be even more fun(as Aaron suggested)or, if you’re like me, terrifying.

It’s very uneven with numerous dips and bumps to keep you on your toes. Miraculously, I managed to cover the entire 4.3K and get to the other end where it joins Moraine Lake road without any faceplants. I did remove my skis to go down one steep hill. I guess you could sum it up by describing it as “moguls with tracksetting.”

Moraine Lake road is still in terrific shape and the tracks were lightning fast. I truly felt like I was flying after the slow going on Fairview. It was nice meeting Wendy and Joanne who thanked me for my blog, and specifically for the posting a few days ago where I described MLR as easy for beginners on the first 2.6K. They had just bought new skis and were out for only the third time ever.

Next, I enjoyed an effortless ski down Tramline. At the bottom, I proceeded along the Bow River trail for 1.3K where it joins the Campground loop. Bow River is packed and is skiable but not trackset. It’s a bit rough in spots but I easily avoided anything that might damage my skis.

The Campground is fabulous. They’ve not only trackset the loop, but many of the trails which criss-cross, and also the trail through the middle. The loop is double trackset with a skating lane and is dog-friendly. This would be a fantastic trail for beginner skiers to practice on. At the side is the map which shows you how to get to the campground and where to park. From the parking area, you can start skiing immediately on tracksetting on the bridge over the Bow river.

Did anyone find Ken’s fanny pack?

Hello Bob

I have lost my black skier fanny back in the parking lot at Moraine Lake Road on Monday, Nov 28th. I believe that my fanny pack may have fallen out of my vehicle around noon while changing after skiing. The contents included a Garmin Edge 500 GPS unit, a heart rate transmitter and strap, and a tube of Neutrogena sunscreen.
I can be contacted by email (yendisk@mac.com) or telephone (403) 679-1069
Thank you,
Ken
