Great ski conditions – everywhere!

Best overall pre-Christmas ski conditions that I can remember

I thought that was such a great photo from yesterday that I’ve created a new blog header from it. It was plain to see those guys were having fun and I enjoyed talking to them for a few minutes. Very engaging gentlemen they were. Their names from L to R are Ted Potts, David Miller, and Dave Henley.

Those two warm days earlier in the week were a warning to all the procrastinators out there – get out and ski now while conditions are so excellent! A few warm days and things can change quickly.

The three most popular trails at Mt Shark were groomed yesterday. Watridge Lake Rd and the 2K Blue were trackset and the trail report says “the trails groomed on Dec 15th should be in near-pristine condition.”

Now let’s see how many trails they can trackset in PLPP before the weekend. I also noticed there was enough new snow to trackset the trails at Ribbon Creek-Kananaskis Village area.

The Canmore Nordic Centre trackset the natural snow trails yesterday so they must have had some new snow.

Goat Creek

Ha Ling peak. This is the sight you'll see when returning to the Goat Creek trailhead. The first K of the Goat Creek trail is never groomed or trackset, so don't judge the tracks from this. Dec 16, 2010

Took a pleasant little spin down Goat Creek today and it was good. You’ll still encounter the odd easily-avoidable rock(they’re becoming rare, though). The tracks are still okay for the first 8K, washed out in a few places but nothing dangerous. Once you cross the Spray River(one of the most beautiful , scenic locations in the park), and climb the hill you’ll have brand new excellent tracks for the final 10K into Banff along the Spray River.

It looks like the trails in Banff are in great condition and that includes Cascade Fire Road, Spray River, and Redearth Creek. I don’t know about Healy Creek.

The Banff Trail Report shows a lot of new tracksetting was done in Lake Louise.

Wax Clinics

Norm at Lifesport will be holding recreational wax clinics on Thursday January 6th and Thursday January 13th as a fundraiser for the Greater Bragg Creek Trail Association.  Appointments need to be made in advance as space is limited. The cost is $25 per person, no changes or refunds. Clinics run about 90 minutes.

GBCTA will use the funds for snowmobile maintenance, fuel, etc.

Nipika reports “The BEST CONDITIONS EVER!! The snow just keeps coming. All trails are groomed for classic and skate skiing. With Summer trail work and a great early snowpack we have better skiing than we had all last winter!”
