Agree with the comment re. horses at Sandy McNabb ruining the experience. We went there today to ski and saw two equestrians out on the trails, plus a load of fresh manure and deep-punched horse tracks on the route we were skiing. We abandoned after less than a km and went elsewhere, as it was no fun to ski.
Back on Dec 12, Nigel Duxbury left this comment re: Sandy McNabb:
It seems that someone is riding there horse(s) on the tracks and is absolutely destroying them or can I dare to say, “ vandalizing” them. Even though there are sign posts that indicate the prohibited use of horses on the trails, still the problem seems worse then ever. I stopped and talked to some fellow skiers today and they said to me that they actually confronted these horsemen and felt threatened, so what is anyone to do? The solution may lay in reporting this activity to the Province or Park Wardens. If you see a horse trailer and obvious activity of horses on the trails, why not write down a license plate number and report it to Park Officials. I have the feeling if this kind of thing continues, skiers may end up losing these trails….? I’d appreciate any comments you may have.
I agree, the horse people think they own KCountry and have no problem telling other users where to go. I think this needs to be reported to park officials and action taken. We ALL should be able to share and enjoy the outdoors.
Calgary City Police also noted riding their horses on the Jack Rabbit trail at Weaselhead. Couldn’t they go on their pony rides other than a ski trail
