This is the earliest ever that we’ve had grooming on Moraine Lake road in Lake Louise. Take note that so far it is groomed only, and not trackset. Grooming leaves a corduroy surface.
Now would be a good time to remind everyone to check the Trip Reports frequently. There’s a tab on the main menu. In addition to Chuck’s report, we have a couple of reports from the “Backdoor to Pocaterra” already.

Thank you to everyone who has made a comment on the previous post. There can be no doubt that the groomed trails in Kananaskis are well-used and much appreciated by everyone, not just Albertans, but also by people from other provinces and states.
I asked Ray if he had any photos and further remarks about his “Backdoor to Pocaterra” trip today. He sent the photo and replied, “Roughly a foot of snow. Water made for lots of icing. I would wait for more snow or make new tracks where possible.”
It would appear that Lake Louise has stolen the thunder from the opening of Frozen Thunder on Monday. This is a unque situation, having groomed trails in Lake Louise BEFORE the opening of Frozen Thunder.

The Back Door
For those interested in skiing Pocaterra and the other high elevation trails in PLPP via the Back Door trail, drive 8.9K south of the barricade on Hwy 40. You’ll see a small parking lot on the right hand side of the road. From the parking lot to Upper Pocaterra it’s about 650 metres. The highway is open until Dec 1. No grooming has occurred on these trails. Backdoor to Pocaterra Map.
