Friday morning update

It looks like we’ll have a significant snowfall event on Monday and Tuesday if the forecasts are correct.

Mt Shark: All the trails were trackset last night. Do you have your Kananaskis parking pass?

Jan 29th:  Periods of snow fell during the day on Thursday at Mt Shark, changing to light flurries after dark.  As of midnight when the grooming was completed, there was about 3cm’s of new snow on top of the Watridge Lake Trail grooming (including heli pad access), and less than a cm on all other trails; it was snowing very lightly at the time.

There are a few places where pine branches are encroaching the edges of the trail (especially when snow laden)- mainly on a few parts of the 15k loop, and especially the extra 5k of this loop.  These will continue to be removed throughout the winter as time allows.

The temperature at the Mud Lake weather station which is about 10K from Mt Shark is -7°C.

Lake Louise: The Lake Surface and Shoreline were trackset yesterday.

Banff: Tunnel Mountain trails were trackset on the 28th.

Canmore Nordic Centre: Many of the natural snow trails were trackset overnight including Bow, Banff, and Meadowview, and Grey Wolf.

Confederation golf course: “Cold temps and a few cm have really helped improve the trail conditions.  Snow farming has done an amazing job in covering any bare spots so we have a fantastic base.  Conditions are very good, enjoy your ski!” Check the Grooming report.

2 Comments:

  1. Mt Shark: there was more snow overnight and all morning/early aft. Some icing around the lunch/early aft period, then better when it cooled off again. Enough travel to pack it all down for good tracks tomorrow. Didn’t notice any overhanging branches along green loop at all.

  2. Great shots.

Here’s one I have of a bighorn bidding us adieu on the last day of skiing up at Highwood Pass one year.
