Good early season conditions
The Moraine Lake road was groomed overnight and conditions for skaters were good. There was evidence of someone walking in their street shoes in the skating lane, and it takes very little to break through to the pavement, although the damage was minimal.
Tracks are still in pretty nice shape, too, although some icy stretches required a stickier wax for grip.
Snow temp was -5 but we were using Swix for 0/-2 and it was barely adequate. We could have used some waxing advice from George, but all things considered it was another wonderful day in the majestic Rocky Mountains of Alberta.
The photos are definitely worth seeing. Got some great scenery shots, and an excellent pic of a classic skier and skate-skier side-by-side where you can see the difference between the two techniques.
Thanks for the update! I was wondering if I could skate Moraine Lake Road this weekend and the Banff Trail report isn’t quite adequate.
Keep up the good work!
