Sure am glad to get these updates from Alf and Steve since I haven’t been out for a few days:
Hi Bob,
Conditions are excellent right now at the south end of the Peter Lougheed Park trails. At Elk Pass-Blueberry Hill, the off-trail snow depth is 40 to 45 cm. K-Country trail crews have done a fantastic job of packing and grooming many of the trails at this end of the park. There was a 3cm layer of sparkling fresh snow on top of the recent grooming, which helped create a magical experience. Tyrwhitt was not yet groomed, but Hydroline was in great shape… and Blueberry Hill was a thrill. More photos

Steve Riggs sends this report on West Bragg:
“Back out again at West Bragg Creek on Thursday, for a sunset ski taking in Sundog, Elbow, Iron Springs and East Crystal Line. Conditions are still good, with a few very short areas, mostly on Iron Springs, in poor-fair condition.
A bit of warmer weather and plenty of skier traffic have resulted in some wear and tear to the week-old grooming, but the flip side to the firmer snow surface is that the skiing is nice and fast.”
I have to agree. Last Sunday in West Bragg I had to skirt around dog poop a number of times. I would also ask that dog owners control their dogs so that they are not interfering with others who are skiing (i.e. coming up from behind and then between one’s skis on the downhill sections!)
What is it with West Bragg and dog owners? The trails are in generally good shape but frozen dog turds are a hazard. Beware and take evasive action.
