Join me for a ski trip

Explore some of the best cross-country ski trails with us

Cheryl and I have joined the Canmore Nordic Ski Club(CNSC) and will be organizing and co-ordinating daytrips for members of the club. Our first trip will be going Saturday Dec 18 to Moraine Lake Road in Lake Louise. You can see our schedule for the next 30 days.

As I am always trying to encourage newer skiers to participate in this fabulous activity, many of these trips are novice-friendly. When Cheryl is available, she’ll be co-ordinating the faster skiers and I will stay with the skiers who enjoy a more relaxed pace and help them with waxing, gear issues, and moral support.

For a description of our first trip, see the CNSC forum Sat Dec 18 Moraine Lake Road.

The CNSC has a remarkably successful program for training and racing, but this new venture will be strictly for those of us who ski for fun and pleasure.

Anyone, including Calgarians, can join the CNSC. Membership is a bargain at $20 for an individual and $30 for a family. Once you’re a member, the daytrips are free unless otherwise specified. Become a member

We’re looking forward to meeting others who share our passion for skiing and having fun!

West Bragg Creek

Steve Riggs sends this report:

Hi Bob,

An update on West Bragg Creek from Wednesday afternoon. Temperature of plus 5 as I started out at 3 pm, on a most enjoyable circuit of Sundog-Elbow-Iron Springs-Crystal Line East and West.

The trails remain in decent shape overall, with somewhat icy conditions in a couple of sun exposed areas, and hardpack on a few of the downhills.

Despite the warm weather, waxing was easy- Start purple worked perfectly.  Surprisingly good conditions, really, considering how long it’s been since the last snowfall.

Pocaterra

Chip was here on Wed and says: “From the Pocaterra hut up to Whiskey Jack junction the conditions were marginal. They need snow badly!”

I’ll be live on CBC Radio One’s Homestretch on Thursday at 5:35 pm. I’m hoping to check out some trails in K-Country which I can report on.
