Merry Christmas

Tessa's the one with the blue boots!

Season’s Greetings to all cross-country skiers and all our Ski Here! readers. I won’t be updating the blog for a few days, but if you ski somewhere, let us know about it in the comments section below.

Update Dec 24: We skied at Ribbon Creek today – superb conditions. See comments for more info. (For the 5 skiers from Edmonton, I’ve put your photo on Facebook.)

A reminder to members of the Canmore Nordic Ski Club….we’ll be co-ordinating a trip to Pocaterra on Dec 28. Join the fun! Click here for details and registration

The readership of this blog has risen to a whole new level this season, thanks to all the informative comments we’ve been receiving. December has had over 16,000 views and that already surpasses Dec 2009 with 8 days to go.

  1. CNC – Banff & Meadowview laps early Sun am. Man made snow zones are in excellent condition. Natural snow trails still in decent condition, but are accumulating a fair bit of debris and some foilage is starting to show through in spots towards the west end of Banff trail…Meadowview was better. Van reported -10C at 8:30am and -2C at 1pm. Universal klister leftovers from yesterday’s warm temps worked just fine.

  2. And keep up the spectacular pictures of Cheryl skiing!! Hope to meet you on the trails again!

  3. Skogan Loop-HighLevel-Sunburst, December 24.
Very good conditions and warm sunny weather made for a great afternoon of skiing. Skogan trail a bit thin below the Nakiska sno-mo road junction, above that, groomed and trackset to perfection. The solid and fast packed surface made me glad on the long downhills to have chosen my metal edge light touring skis. Start purple wax worked great. Beyond upper Skogan Loop, the trail to the pass appears to be groomed only, but I did not go far that way.

  4. Tessa and I had our traditional Christmas eve ski today at Ribbon Creek, and it was superb. The air temp was +5, but the tracks were still good and the snow was cold. We skied up Ribbon Creek, climbed to the Kovach Lookout, descended towards Kananaskis Village and returned to Ribbon Creek trailhead on Terrace. The S-turns coming down Kovach are scraped pretty bare but still skiable without too much concern. The .7K Terrace trail downhill to the parking lot had a few thin spots. I’m not sure how long these good conditions will remain with the forecasted warm weather over the next two days. I’ve put some photos on Facebook:

  5. I’ve been skiing the West Bragg trails the last two afternoons. Not much change really for a couple of weeks- somewhat harder packed, and a bit more debris in the tracks, but still giving very enjoyable skiing.
