Hey Bob:

Here is an update as promised. Looks like it may be now or never so it is vital that people show up at COP on the 22nd and show support for the project!

WinSport is unveiling its New Master Plan for Canada Olympic Park and Amendment to Area Structure Plan on Tuesday, Feb. 22. The cross-country trail expansion plans are part of this “Big Picture” plan. Although there won’t be specific details available about cross-country ski trail construction, this Open House is a rare opportunity for cross-country ski enthusiasts to represent their views to WinSport and the City.

Foothills believes it’s important that cross-country skiers attend this meeting and take the time to talk to WinSport staff and City representatives about the urgent need for new cross-country ski trails.

WinSport’s mandate is to provide facilities for Canada to become the number one winter sport nation. Nordic sports account for about a third of the medals at the Winter Olympics, but WinSport only provides approx 2 km of cross-country ski trails at COP.

The City has a mandate to provide recreational opportunities for its citizens. So far, that has amounted to ZERO km of cross-country ski trails.

Worried about Calgary’s warm Chinook winds blowing away the snow? Don’t forget COP already has snow-making infrastructure in place!

Thanks!
Blaine
