Cascade Fire Road

Hi Bob,

Thought I’d go check out Cascade Fireroad today since it was cold enough for some Swix Blue.

I was amazed that it is still in good shape and holding up nicely.

The road and meadow is still fine, no asphalt and no grass. I ended up skiing all the way to Stoney Cabin.

I’d say the trail to the first bridge is great, after that the next 2 or 3 kms are still pretty good and after that it’s still perfectly skiable but it was warming up and the wax wasn’t working so well and I was breaking trail through an inch or two of snow.

Lots of animal tracks in the snow although no signs of any bears.

As long as it stays cold at night and you can get out early I’d say it has quite a bit of life left in it yet.

I guess if you can’t beat it you may as well enjoy it.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike’s update has reminded me to hurry up and complete my Top-10 list. The Lake Louise to Banff Loppet is number one on my almost-completed list( Mike is one of the organizers).
