I‘ve driven past the Buller Pass day-use area dozens of times over the last 10 years, but never stopped and did the hike until a few days ago. The whole family was along as we headed out in beautiful weather on a sunny summer afternoon.
It starts out in the trees as you slowly climb and gain elevation, but after a few K, the views start to appear. It continues to get better as we pass cool mountain streams, wide open flower-filled meadows, with towering mountain peaks in the distance.
Near the end, as you approach the pass, there’s one final ascent up a scree slope. At the pass the views are breathtaking. Some snow was still lingering at the pass.
