Most humbling experience? My first World Masters, 2008 in McCall, Idaho. I’d done pretty well in my age group in some of the local loppets here, so thought I was a pretty good skier. First event in Idaho was 30k classic in difficult waxing conditions. Worked very hard… and finished 3rd from last in a field of about 40. Redeemed myself couple days later at the 10k skate, where waxing is not an issue, and moved all the way up to … 31. out of 40… Love the atmosphere of World Masters. It’s the Olympics for Walter Mitty! At Sovereign Lakes 2011, finished mid-pack in the 10k classic, and felt like I really belonged there.
