The warm weather didn’t reach us in Canmore and Banff yet. It was -7°C at Castle Lookout where I was skiing leg 2 of the Lake Louise to Banff loppet trail. The snow temp was -10. The next three days are looking pretty scary, however, with highs on the plus side of the thermometer.
I’m not sure if it’s a good idea for me to ski leg 2 of the race because I’ll find it difficult to ski this extraordinarily beautiful trail as fast as I can. It’s a situation where one wants to go slow and soak in the beauty.
Conditions on leg 2 are excellent. The tiny duck feet on my poles didn’t break through the snow at all, and snow coverage has never been better.
There’s lots of snow on legs 3, 4, and 5 waiting to be packed and trackset.
