Thanks to Roland L for the trip report, and thanks to Brenda for the photo:

Skied Pocaterra today Feb 02
From the junction Packers towards south shortly before Whiskey Jack junction we followed large animal tracks on both side of trail and later only on east side of trail. tracks seem similar to Gray wolf. Claw marks where still visible size approx. 5 inches tracks must have been from earlier morning. We skied from 2 pm to 5 pm. Conditions where still great with hardly any ice build up.

We’re out in Yoho enjoying some nice cold snow. I managed to find an internet connection so here’s a quick update:

Skied the Lake O’Hara fire road to Lake O’Hara Lodge on the best conditions I’ve ever seen here. The trail was well-packed and trackset. Started out with VR40(-4/-12) but kicked it up a notch to VR45(-2/-8) for the last half of the trip. I used my skinny racing skis and had no trouble at all. The trip back down was incredibly fast; it only took 42 minutes to cover the 11.1K trail and there was nothing scary about it. Going up took about two hours with a 450 metre elevation gain. The car thermometer indicated an air temperature of +1°C.

We enjoyed the Kicking Horse Ski Club’s annual dinner last night in Field. The money-raising efforts have been going well and it looks like we’ll be enjoying trackset trails out here for a few more years. We’re out here for one more night so I’ll post photos from today’s skiing on Monday night or Tuesday.

Thanks for all the trip reports. I’ve been wondering how the snow is holding out in Kananaskis.
