I had my computer warmed up and my credit card ready at 7:59 a.m. today. Congratulations to everyone who “raced” to enter the Lake Louise to Banff Loppet.
As I write this at 8:45 a.m, registration has been open for 45 minutes and 191 of the 200 spots are filled. So it’s a race to get entered, then the actual race takes place on Jan 19.
My team abandoned me this year(Peter’s going solo, Joelle is studying for exams) so I’m going solo. I’m really disappointed that it’s only going to be 50K rather than the usual 71K 🙂
I have some good news for all loppeteers who are staying in Lake Louise on the night before the loppet. The Mountaineer Lodge is offering a special rate to SkiHere readers for Sat Jan 18 at 20% off their usual prices. A standard room will be $116.00 which includes breakfast. With the loppet start time being 9 a.m, I’m assuming the pre-race meeting will be at 8 a.m, therefore we might actually have a chance to eat. When you book, mention that you saw it on SkiHere to get the discount.
Terrific to have you back at the LLBL again. Yes, all 200 spaces sold out in 61 minutes this morning. Sorry we can’t accommodate your desire for 71km this year. But we won’t stop you at Sawback. You can break trail on to Muleshoe, through the back swamp and wade across Healy Creek, finishing in Banff! You know we are flexible at this event! And thanks for the info about the Mountaineer Lodge in LL. A great rate in a lovely hotel. See you on the trail!

What’s the prize for going 71K? …and can we start at 10 a.m? -Bob
One can see your mind working Bob !
Quick question, which I have never asked anyone.
I notice that you put your initials on your ski tips, with one being underlined.
Do you rotate your left and right skis? I have SNS profil bindings and I find myself not caring about left or right, figuring that it perhaps help keep the wear and tear (on the inside edge) more evenly distributed. Of course in the old days of 75mm and Adidas 38/50mm bindings, there was a left and right.
I sometimes experiment with different grip waxes on each ski, and that’s how I can remember which is which. -Bob
Hi Bob – looking forward to skiing with you for some of the 51 km. First time for me and something I have always wanted to. Hope the weather and conditions are great.
