There were a lot of skiers at the Canmore Nordic Centre enjoying the first day of the Banff trail loop being entirely open.
I started out by skiing the lower half of the loop. There’s one section about 300 metres long where the snow is a bit thin, but the tracks were good. Skaters may have to take evasive action to avoid some thin areas.
The air temperature was -2°C and I had excellent grip with Swix violet(0°). I probably could have used VR50 and done okay.
We only received a skiff of snow last night, but skiers were already reporting improved conditions on the natural snow on Banff trail.
Scott skied to the end of Meadowview and seemed pretty happy with the snow there.
The daylodge is closed on Christmas day which means skiing will be free.
Diana’s icing sugar comment prompted me to revive a page which I had on here once. I’m always amazed at the descriptions which skiers invent to give us a vivid indication of snow conditions. Kananaskis tracksetter Jeff is the pro at this, and many of the contributions on this page are his. Take a look at Words to Describe Snow Conditions. Can you add anything to it?
Do you like the main menu? I’ve taken most of the items which were in “Resources” and added them on a second line. Not sure if this is better or worse.
Merry Christmas to all my readers, and all the best to you and yours in 2015!

We can still use the washroom facility, right?
One of the wax rooms by the biathlon range has washrooms which are always open.
