Delta Lodge at Kananaskis holds a special place in my skiing memories. I had lived in Calgary for 8 years, but had never been out to the mountains in the winter, and decided to spend a weekend at the Lodge at Kananaskis(it was a CP Hotel in 1997).

While walking around, I stumbled upon the ski tracks on Terrace trail. I didn’t even know what they were. I thought they might be the tracks for the sleigh rides, when a couple skiers came along. I rented a pair of waxless skis from Kananaskis Outfitters(it was called Peregrine Sports Rentals back then), and skied a 6K loop up Kovach, Aspen, and Terrace. Needless to say, I had a lot of fun that first time.
Before venturing out, thinking it would be a long day, I took some lunch and still have the lunch bag which the hotel packed it in.
I love this place, been there almost every year since it opened. Nice to see but a little sad as it was always a little bit under the radar from the mobs of Banff. Kinda our own little haven
