CNC officially opens on Saturday – with snow!

With all the new snow in Canmore, the nordic centre was able to rollerpack a number of natural snow trails. It’s still early season and there could be some hazards. As well, it’s raining in Canmore tonight, so it remains to be seen what shape these will be in tomorrow.

For those of you who have purchased a season pass, they will take effect tomorrow and you can ski on Frozen Thunder at no extra cost. I did a loop on Frozen Thunder late in the day and there is a lot of today’s new snow waiting to be groomed. The skaters have packed down the middle of the trail as you can see in the photos.

I also observed a lot of man-made snow piles at the nordic centre which are waiting to be smoothed out and made into additional skiable trails.

PLPP

Tanya braved the roads and checked PLPP for us today. Read about her adventure on Whiskey jack on the Trip Reports. She posted a photo on Twitter which I’ve included.

Lake Louise

I don’t know what’s transpired in Lake Louise except that I read on Twitter someone’s estimate of 20 cm. That might be manageable for the trail crews to groom for tomorrow? Can’t wait to get the trip reports.

The weather forecast is calling for more snow this weekend but unfortunately also warm temperatures. By midweek things turn cold, so let’s hope most of this snow survives to be groomed.

West Bragg2West Bragg Creek

The status of West Bragg Creek grooming is one of the most sought after pieces of information on this blog, and this next bit of information will make thousands of people happy. I’m thrilled to inform you their updates will be posted on Facebook and Twitter this winter as well as this blog. Go to Facebook and Like them, or to Twitter and follow

  1. The Lake Louise resort reports 42 cm over the last 24 hours and 58 cm over the last 48 hours.

  2. Heard from a biker there this morning, that it started to rain after noon today at West Bragg.
    🙁
