PLPP north

I hadn’t skied Lodgepole and Braille yet this winter, so when I saw they were groomed last night, I headed there today. Barrry G has provided a Trip Report already, so I’ll fill in a few of the blanks and add the photos.

Starting out at 11:30 a.m, I used my Skintecs to avoid any grip problems which may have presented themselves at this late stage of the day, but the snow was still cold enough to be enjoyable.

There was a significant amount of new snow from yesterday’s storm which allowed good tracksetting over the previously icy base. As I started out, I encountered the two sit-skiers which Barry was referring to. They were side-by-side coming down a hill towards me, so I had to react quickly to get out of the way.  They did say “thanks.”

I figured I better start getting acquainted with the trails around William Watson Lodge, so I skied Spruce Road, the easiest trail in PLPP. While doing that I discovered there’s a groomed walking trail, about 600 metres in length, so I skied it for the first time ever. It leads to a scenic viewpoint.

I guess in a couple years when I’m frail and decrepit(even more than I am now!), and eligible to stay at WWL, all these updates will be for Spruce Road, Braille, and Lodgepole. If I still have my eyesight, I’ll cross the road occasionally and check out Wheeler and Meadow.

After lunch, I skied for 700 metres on Pocaterra which is starting to be encroached upon with edge creep. At the junction I continued on Come-Along to the steep hill, and returned to the parking lot on Rolly Road. The south-facing hills on RR were pure slush.

  1. Bob, that’s great looking snow, considering what we hear about conditions.

I love your musing on getting old. Then there are some of us who spend all day simply reading about all of the adventures on Skihere.ca. We’re the ones who will be ahead of you in line at WW!
Perhaps they’ll set a limit. Less than 250km a year and you get a free pass.
If so, then I’m confident that you have at least a few good months left in you.
