We were thrilled to observe this black bear for about 20 minutes while it munched its way through the Sawback burn along the Bow Valley parkway yesterday(Monday). It was preoccupied with eating and paid no attention to the onlookers.
As luck would have it, there was a pull-out at the spot where we encountered the bear. We were among the first vehicles to see the bear, and it was interesting to watch the behavior of the people who subsequently arrived. I suggested to two people to get back in their vehicles. One got lippy with me. Banff National Park’s Bear Safety rules state…
If you see a bear by the road, at all times observe and photograph bears from the safety of your car.
This isn’t going to be constructive…
How many animals is parks going to have to euthanize this year because of people who don’t care (through their actions).
Glad you said something to them.
