Pleasant fall day on Goat Creek

Autumn is my second-favourite time of year. The days are still warm but not scorching hot; vivid fall colours adorn the trails; the pesky bugs are gone, and ski season is right around the corner.

I’m hoping I’ll be gliding down Goat Creek on my skis in two months, but while fantasizing about all the ski trips, it’s enjoyable to bike the 19K from Canmore to Banff. Wanting to prolong the fun, I added a few Ks by making a short detour onto the High Rockies trail as well.

The trails are reasonably dry and in nice shape. I only had to ride through three mud puddles on Goat Creek. The temperature at mid-afternoon at the Goat Creek trailhead was +19ºC, at midpoint it was +12, and at the Banff end it was back up to 18. I enjoyed Aspen’s company for a few kilometres on the home stretch to Banff. It’s kind of neat that I was able to take a photo of Aspen among the golden aspens.
