-Sadie and her mom were enjoying the fresh snow and good tracks at Canmore Nordic Centre-
This morning’s tracksetting already had about 3 cm of new snow over top when I was at the Canmore Nordic Centre around noon. We’re up to 4 cm, just as the Weather Network predicted, in Canmore. The snow has pretty well stopped as I write this at 4:30 pm.
Excellent conditions prevail on the man-made snow. I skied out to the natural snow on Banff trail and talked to a skier who had been to the end and back who reported no packing or tracks, but she did not encounter any rocks or hazards that would damage her skis. (Update from Charles Curtis @5:35 pm: “Canmore Nordic centre rolled meadowview, bow and Banff. coverage is okay (really good rock skiing). meadowview downhill (at the end far end) has a lots of rocks. everywhere else the rocks are avoidable.)
The warming hut is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. There is another building a few metres from the warming hut which I believe would be the bathrooms.
Some more distance has been added to the man-made snow on Olympic and Centennial trails. It’s a work in progress, and the snow guns are going full force on those trails.
Skiing at the nordic centre is free on Christmas day.
This new snow has allowed Cascade Valley to be trackset in its entirety to Stoney Creek which is a 14.5K ski one-way. As well, Upper Bankhead has also been trackset.
West Bragg Creek should be busy with skiers and multi-users over the holidays with all the new snow and grooming. Check the Groomer’s Report with photo from Jeff.
