I’m happy to see the middle trails in PLPP were trackset last night. Those include Wheeler, Amos, Woolley, and Meadow. As well, Fox Creek, Boulton Creek, and Moraine were trackset.
The trail report mentions that many trees were removed but “Expect lots of tree debris mixed in to the new grooming.”

The Kananaskis Village trails were trackset yesterday. The trail report says “Great conditions but expect a bit of fresh snow on top of the grooming.”
At Lake Louise, the Shoreline, Lake, Peyto and Upper Telemark were trackset. Fairview is scheduled to be trackset this afternoon.
At Canmore Nordic Centre, many of the secondary natural snow trails were trackset this morning including Osprey, Bruin, Freddie’s Flip, Coyote, Flying Squirrel, King of Sweden, Rollercoaster, Silvertip, Wolverine.

“Year 7 of the Rocky Mountain Ramblers Rossland-Salmo Ski Extravaganza. Word was that snow conditions in the Rossland Range were pathetic. Well, we didn’t find that to be true, although the lower elevation trails were quite heinous. The first 3 days were blue skies above the Kootenay Sea. Then we moved to Salmo and had fine powder and lots of it. Sometimes the vis was a bit thin, but what do you expect when it snows 10 m a year?”
XC returns to Okotoks
On Jan 10, The Ranch House at the Calgary Polo Club is opening a cross country ski course spread over the six polo fields and surrounding rural areas.
From what I’ve seen on their Facebook site, it appears the trail will be 4K and single trackset.
Open Friday Saturday and Sunday 12:00pm to 6pm.
Dogs not allowed on the course.
Cost is a one time fee of $25.

No XC skiing in San Francisco
My friend Peter Neumann submitted a trip report yesterday from his ski trip in Kananaskis. He better not take his skis when he visits his family in San Francisco. Peter writes…
“Sent my sister some photos of today’s ski. She replied with this taken today on her commute into SFO on BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit). Blow up photo, look closely at right door. Susanne swears this is not Photoshop. In San Francisco ??”
