Sunday morning update

Confed on Mar 14

It’s a frigid morning in the SkierBob universe, with a temperature of -31°C at the West Bragg Creek trailhead at 7:15 a.m. A big change from the balmy +25 of Arizona. Calgary is at -24 this morning.

Most places are in the -25 to -30 range at 7:15 a.m. The good news is that it’s going to warm up considerably by noon.

After 20+ cm of new snow, the trails at West Bragg Creek have been trackset and are in excellent condition.

The forecast high for Kananaskis Village is -4. The Bill  Milne, Wedge, and Kananaskis Village trails were all trackset yesterday and Tracksetter Jeff was effusive about how good the conditions are for the middle of March. The Hay Meadow thermometer indicates -29 at 7 a.m.

There is no new grooming in PLPP: “No grooming took place on Saturday night due to mechanical issues with the snowcat. Expect a couple of cm’s of new snow on top of Friday night’s grooming, and 5 to 10cm’s on most other trails (likely a little more at some higher elevations).” The temperature at the PLPP maintenance compound is -32.

The PLPP info centre is still open for emergencies, washrooms, and information. The lounge + discovery centre are closed to minimize large groups.

Lake Louise only received 2 cm of new snow, so the trails should be in great shape. There’s been recent grooming on most of the trails including Pipestone.

Canmore Nordic Centre grooming update: “March 13-Limited Grooming for weekend during cold snap on Natural Trails due to very hard snow conditions with limited new snow. Most tracks will be wind blow and have forest debris.”

Mt Shark trails should be in reasonably good shape. They were all groomed on Thursday. The Mud Lake weather station indicates 1 cm of new snow, but I am suspect of its veracity. The temperature is -32.

Confederation golf course Mar 14: “Grooming volunteers were out after the snow stopped this afternoon and everything has been groomed and trackset. Conditions are excellent and quite possibly the best of the year! Some of the tracks got blown in but hope to redo them tonight or Sunday morning.”

Shaganappi golf course is open for skiing and has been recently groomed.
