42 cm at Lake Louise

A snowfall warning has been issued for most of the SkierBob domain including Calgary and West Bragg Creek. There’s snow in the forecast for the next five days. As I write this at 7 pm, it has just started snowing in Calgary.

You can now isolate the recently groomed trails on the PLPP trail report. I wasn’t aware of this until Ken Hewitt mentioned it yesterday. We can expect a further 5-10 cm of snow and colder temperatures in PLPP in the next 24 hours. The Mud Lake weather station shows snowfall of 7 cm since 10 am, so I expect the PLPP trails will have a similar amount.

  1. It’s good to know that there’s more detailed information on the grooming in PLPP. What puzzles me is that Amos, Wheeler, and Woolley were last groomed on Jan. 17, while Braille, Lodgepole, and Sinclair have been groomed 3 times since then (Jan. 19, Jan. 26, and Feb. 2). Blueberry, Elk Pass, and Patterson were last groomed on Jan. 20. I thought that there might be more of a regular rotation in the trail grooming, as in past years.

    • Hi Ray, I’ve forwarded your comment to the person at Alberta Parks who might have an explanation.

    • The PLPP snowcat has been experiencing mechanical problems in recent weeks. I received this reply from Alberta Parks “We’ve been limping the wounded one along for a couple of weeks until there was space in the shop. Now that we have the borrowed machine, these trails will get done.”
