I was out enjoying family day, seeing lots of kids, dogs, and….families! I’ll be posting photos tomorrow.
While skiing today, I stumbled upon a groomed trail which I had never seen before. I was merrily skiing along a trackset trail when I crossed a snowshoe trail and something looked out of place. On my right there was a small hill with corduroy.
I decided to follow it and I ended up on a beautifully groomed trail that kept pulling me deeper into unknown territory. This trail is not shown on any ski trail map.
It crossed lovely meadows and was very enjoyable with rolling hills and spectacular views. There were a couple steep downhills that culminated in wide, sweeping turns so it wasn’t difficult at all.
I’ve never seen so many deer and moose tracks.
I had not come to the end when I started losing the sun. My GPS indicated I had traveled 3.7K with a net elevation loss of 40 metres.
Should I continue on, not knowing the trail or where it leads? Will it take me over a cliff in the dark if I press on? I turned around and headed back.
Are there ghost groomers at work in the empire?
Do you know where this is?
MAAD wouldn’t have turned around.
Looks great! Stoney Trail NE of Troll Falls perhaps? Maybe route was originally packed for powerline access?
Congratulations, Lawrence. I guess I can add the rest of my photos now. I tried to hide the powerline from the photos knowing it would be a giveaway.
