Lake Louise

Two snowmobiles were working on Moraine Lake road late this afternoon. Wonderful cold snow with minimal pine needles but the new grooming should improve the situation even more.

One side of MLR had a good older track while the groomers worked the opposite side. Snow temperature was -7°C.

Upon driving into Lake Louise village at 3 pm, we observed a line-up of at least 300 people waiting to to take the shuttle buses up to the lake to see the Ice Magic show.  I’ll get my chance to see it tomorow morning as we start the Lake Louise to Banff loppet at 9 a.m. on the ice of iconic Lake Louise.

The loppet trails looked pretty good all the way to Sawback. The air temperature was never above freezing. If you’re participating in the loppet, you can see a trail condition update here http://www.loppet.ca/. My favourite stretch is Leg 2 which sounds like it’s in awesome shape. It’s going down to -12 in LL tonight, so we’ll have a cool ski down Tramline to get things started.

A reminder to all readers that Baker creek to Castle junction is now groomed all winter long. It’s about 15K one-way.

Lots of positive vibes coming from readers on the Trip Reports, especially considering only five days ago we were suffering from the invasion of the pine needles!

Here’s a link to some Ice Magic photos.
