Despite the lack of snow so far, we have a couple venues where the skiing is pretty good, namely Canmore Nordic Centre and Moraine Lake road. I haven’t been to Calgary, but from all reports the skiing has been enjoyable on the two golf courses there.
The snow conditions are excellent at the Canmore Nordic Centre
The conditions at the nordic centre were fabulous for classic or skating today. The snow temperature was -8°C and the air temp was -6. The distance is still only 3.1K, but a lot of snow is being made and there’s at least a kilometre of ungroomed snow on Banff trail. The warmer weather which is in the forecast will probably hamper the snow-making efforts somewhat, but it will still be getting cold at night.
We should feel fortunate. I talked to a member of the Maine Winter Sports Centre’s ski team. They’ve travelled a long way for this snow which we have in our back yard. They’ll be here for six weeks.
