Report from Alf Skrastins:
I was at West Bragg Creek Sunday. I counted 94 vehicles in the parking lot. There were people on the trails mountain biking, dog walking, hiking, trail running, snowshoeing, and XC skiing.
Everyone appeared to be in a great mood and were having a wonderful time enjoying the outdoors.
There are now 108km of trails at West Bragg Creek, so everyone spreads out pretty quickly. I hiked a loop that included the new Snowy Owl snowshoe trail and only ran into about a dozen people… all of them smiling!
Alf also clears up the confusion surrounding the cutting of Christmas trees:
Christmas Tree Cutting is not permitted in the West Bragg Creek Provincial Recreation Area (managed by Alberta Parks). But Christmas Tree cutting is permitted on the ESRD lands 1 km beyond the PRA boundary.
Sure there is irony in the juxtaposition of the two signs, but the “No Cutting” sign was placed by Alberta Parks for the land they manage and the “Logging Road” sign was posted by ESRD for the non-park lands beyond there.
According to Alf the latest go-round of logging is done out there so maybe they will be getting rid of that sign soon.
