Tracksetter James was attempting to groom the ice on Fox creek, but the snowmobile was overheating

On Paul Karchut’s Real Ski Report on CBC this morning, he had a clip from PLPP tracksetter James. “The worst conditions in my 30 years here.” He mentioned they were trucking snow onto Wheeler to cover the bare and icy spots.

It certainly appears that snow is on the way for Friday. The Weather Network has increased their predicted snowfall for PLPP to 10-15 cm, while the Snow Forecast is calling for 27 cm. Snow Forecast is for Fortress mountain at 1800 metres. It predicts “A heavy fall of snow, heaviest during Fri night. Temperatures will be below freezing. Wind will be generally light.”

I’ve posted the latest update from Chateau tracksetter Jeff Douglas regarding the upper Lake Louise trails on Groomer’s reports. Take note of the final paragraph…

“Because of the melt freeze cycle we recently had all of the trails are hard and fast. They are so hard, it’s difficult to put a new track in. Use caution out there, skiers are picking up lots of speed very quickly!”
