A great preview of what’s to come at the Olympics
I’ll never forget the thrill of watching Chandra Crawford win the Women’s Sprint at the World Cup in 2008. We were a few feet from the action as we stood on a hill about half-way through the sprint course, and could still see the finish line clearly. Awesome!

Other perspectives
U.S. skier Kikkan Randall from her website: “Skiing in conditions like this doesn’t get much sweeter, blue sky, hot sun and fast tracks. Canmore has got to be one of the coolest venues on the World Cup circuit.”
U.S. skier Andy Newell posted this on his blog yesterday: “Conditions are incredible here in Canmore. Even though there isn’t a ton of snow the race trails are still groomed rock hard every morning and the skiing on the tourist trails is still pretty epic too.”
Thinking of spectating, but would rather ski during World Cup? You can do both. Little known is that Banff Trail, and a few others, will remain open for public skiing. Only issue is that there will be no public parking at the Nordic Centre, so you will have to bring your gear on the shuttle buses. There is one way around that: rent some equipment from Trail Sports, the shop right across from the day lodge. They will open up after the races. Bring your own boots, as long as they’re NNN, as all of the shop’s rental gear is NNN. Or, you can ski up and down two blocks of Main Street on demo gear!
