I’ve previously written about Buller pass, so I’ll just mention that you can see a lot of wild flowers along the trail right now. They are most profuse about 1.3 – 2K from the trailhead.
What flower is this?
There were gazillions of heart leaved arnica, a large number of silky scorpionweed, plenty of the ubiquitous paintbrush, and occasional sightings of wild roses, yellow columbine, yarrow, globeflower, and many others.
I took a photo of the flower to the right but I don’t know what it is. Does anyone know? I can’t find it in my wildflower book. I’ve searched the internet and can’t find it there, either.
Wind Flower (aka Pacific Anemone), Anemone multifida.
They can be found in a range of colours from white to red, with pink or blue on the tips. The sepals (no petals on this flower) can number from 5 (most common) to 10.
An anemone of some sort perhaps?
It looks very similar to Drummond’s Anemone, with different colouring.
Any naturalists out there??
