Cooler temperatures, some new snow, and fresh grooming has given us a place to ski with good conditions. The air temp this afternoon at the Moraine Lake Road trailhead was -1 and it was snowing lightly. I started out with my waxless skis, not knowing what I was going to encounter. They were probably a good choice initially, because the falling snow was a bit sticky. Other skiers were having some wax problems. If you were skiing on someone else’s tracks, wax would have worked.
There was about 2 cm of new snow in the tracks. Upon arriving at the Fairview junction, I could see fresh grooming and tracksetting; as luck would have it, one track had no new snow in it, so I knew Jessica the tracksetter had just been over it. Waxable skis would have performed fine here.
The Telemark trail had just been single trackset today:
The Great Divide skating lane was rolled today. It had a couple cm of fresh snow in the tracks. I was the first skier so I had to break trail. The falling snow had stopped by now, and I was on waxable skis and everything was working great.
What a treat to be skiing on some cold snow again!
Fun to see and hear from you, glad you had a great year . See you next fall.!!! John M
