Mon Feb 6 @ 8 a.m: Lots of new snow overnight. Accumulation on my deck is up to 21 cm. Some grooming in PLPP last night. Kananaskis Village/Ribbon Creek trails were groomed late yesterday. Grooming ongoing at Canmore Nordic Centre. Check the Live Grooming Reports.
Sun Feb 5 @ 10:20 a.m:
Just got a call from a cabin-owner in PLPP who said she received at least 30 cm overnight. That’s consistent with the Live Grooming Report for PLPP which has just been updated:
“Over the last two days, between 25 cm of fluffy snow at the north end and close to 50 cm at the south end/at higher elevations, have fallen over the trails in PLPP, with snow still falling. Expect abundant but varying amounts of fresh snow on top of all trails, with drifting in places.”
Whiskey Jack, Packers, Upper Pocaterra, Tyrwhitt were groomed last night but I imagine they’re buried in fresh snow. Where we really need the snow is in the vicinity of Pocaterra Hut and I imagine that’s where the 25 cm has been recorded.
Kananaskis Public Safety reports…
“70cm of snow has fallen at Burstall Pass in the past 48 hrs. We expect widespread natural avalanche activity to occur over the next 48hrs.”
Ribbon Creek tracksetter Jeff left a link to an amazing video that’s worth watching if you haven’t seen it yet. The Last King
I got a kick out of Tawny’s unusual trip report today. “I hit a bucket of balls at the driving range…”
Skiers will get a kick out of “The Last King”! Original title “Birkebeinerne”, in Norwegian with subtitles. Available on Netflix. My sister in California found it at public library on Blu-ray, but Calgary public library doesn’t list it.
Haha Thanks Bob! It was pretty funny when it happened. I thought I was roughly where the tracks had been a few days before. Clearly I was in the rough though! It was pretty funny when it happened, but now my bum hurts from landing on the golf balls. My bases took a bit of a hit, too.
