We woke up to 10 cm of new snow this morning at Emerald Lake
What a difference a day makes. All of yesterday’s beautiful tracksetting at Emerald Lake is now covered with 10 cm of fresh snow. We left around 11 a.m. and it had almost stopped snowing.
10 cm of snow fell overnight at Emerald Lake
Emerald Lake is truly a magical place for xc skiers when there are excellent snow and trail conditions. Emerald Lake Lodge is still offering their xc skier’s special mid-week rate. The money you save on the rooms can go towards the incredible food they serve.
It wasn’t snowing much in Lake Louise, but was coming down pretty good around Castle junction.

Let’s welcome Tracksetter Alex to the SkiHere family. Alex is tracksetting at Ribbon Creek and did most of the trails around Kananaskis Village yesterday. According to Tracksetter Jeff he’s a fast learner, so it should be quick and easy for him to learn to operate the “Groomer’s Reports.” 🙂

It was lovely to hear JeremyN’s report regarding the new grooming and ski conditions at Sandy McNabb. I’m looking forward to the rest of today’s trip and snow reports.
The Banff trail report indicates that Spray River West was groomed today as far as the Goat Creek junction. Further down the report it says,
In Lake Louise, Pipestone and Great Divide were trackset.
Some of the best March conditions ever at Nipika: “5cm of new snow fell at Nipika. Grooming in progress on the north trails. South trails will be done tomorrow. Winter just won’t stop! Trails are in great condition.”
Jean-Francois Richy asked a question, wondering why Banff National Park doesn’t have Live Grooming Reports such as those offered by K-Country. Can anyone speculate why Banff doesn’t offer Live Grooming Reports?
Lake O’hara Fire Road – we skied to the lake and back today (Friday), it was snowing and minus 20 C when we got there at 9:30 am. The trail had not been groomed yet and so we were skiing through fresh snow until midway up when we met a school group from Kimberly who was skiing down from Elizabeth Parker Hut. (Note: there is a ice dam about half way up, it was wet so watch for it). Having their trail to ski on made things a bit faster. We had our lunch at Le Relais Shelter on the deck, then skied down. We were surprised at how fast the downtrack was. Total time skiing was 4 hours, while total trip time was over 5 hours. A wonderful day all in all.
Perhaps it’s to avoid the perception of public purse endorsement of a 3rd party ‘for profit’ company (?) with maybe a smidgen of liability management should something get coded/communicated incorrectly …just a guess.
Answer: a lack of good dessert incentives?
