Jan 30 @ 8 pm: This blog experienced a technical problem due to WordPress doing a major upgrade. I lost the last two day’s material. Sorry for the inconvenience. We should be able to go forward from here.
The Hardy Boys from Winnipeg have been hitting some of the high spots in these parts. Yesterday Goat Creek, today Pipestone. They sent this report…
“Pipestone: Good conditions …..all track set …..first few kms ….needles on trail. Return loops are great. Thanks again for your interest and passion for cross country skiing and sharing your experience!”
I bet the Hardy boys are glad they are out here. The high in Winnipeg today was -31°C.
All the weather forecasts are predicting snow for the weekend followed by extreme cold. The various forecasts are wildly divergent in their predictions. For example, one area which could use a lot of snow is Ribbon Creek/Kananaskis Village. Windy.com is predicting 11 cm while Snow-Forecast.com is a lot more optimistic with 27 cm.
In this winter of our discontent, the “couch tour” postings and photos have added a bit of levity to an otherwise challenging ski season. You’ve heard of the Four Peaks Challenge in Canmore? How many have done the Four Couch Challenge this winter?
New tracksetting at Mt Shark last night included Watridge Lake road, The Red/Black 5K, and the Blue 2K. Arie’s trip report said “The trails were groomed to perfection.”
Couch alert: Fairview trail at Lake Louise was trackset today. Moraine Lake road and Tramline were also done.
Update Jan 31: Mega-grooming in PLPP last night. Check the Live Grooming Report for details.
