Here is my attempt to convey what constitutes damage to a skate skiing trail:
On the afternoon of Dec. 3, 2019, two equestrians travelled from the parking lot to Boundary Trail, dropping manure along the way and then turned south on Sundog ( a Skate Skiing Trail ) where they post holed up to the Iron Springs junction, and then turned around and descended down the remainder of Sundog East.
A note to those who don’t skate ski; skate skiing is not unlike ice skating and is best performed on a flat, uniform surface in order to provide for edging ability, glide and control. If you have ever ice skated on a very uneven surface you would sympathize with a skate skier trying to ski in the conditions depicted below.
It took 2 hours to fix this damage and because of the warm temperatures, the heavily renovated snow is like mashed potatoes, and is very soft. It will remain that way until we get significantly colder weather, thus prolonging the unfavourable condition of the trail for skate skiing.
