Dec 26, 2019
Where will you find the best conditions for skiing today? Wherever you go, be prepared to encounter fallen trees on the trails. It’s an ongoing situation resulting from the big snowfall combined with a bit of freezing rain.
Be sure to read the last few days of Trip Reports for good intel on the trails.
City golf courses: Confederation/Shaganappi/Maple Ridge have all had recent grooming.
West Bragg Creek might be the one place where madness reigns with their wonderful conditions and being so close to the city.
10:58 a.m: WBC Update from Groomer Jeff:
“Most of the system has been re track set over the last two days. With such an excellent base and cooler temps, we expect conditions to be very stable. Telephone, Hostel Loop, Moose North, East Crystal and Sundog were all refreshed this morning.”
Sandy McNabb: Should be good. The groomer was out this morning and fixed the trails where the horses walked.
Canmore Nordic Centre has an updated Live Grooming Report that shows lots of grooming and tracksetting this morning. Most significantly, Bow trail is shown as being groomed and trackset. Banff trail past Meadow has been groomed(not trackset).
Lake Louise: Moraine Lake road and Lower Telemark were trackset yesterday. Yes, on Christmas day. Great Divide, Tramline, Bow River Loop, and Campground have been trackset since the 23rd and should be fine.
PLPP: Anything trackset since Dec 23 will be in good shape. The other trails will have lots of fresh snow and tree branches. According to the Trail Report, Tyrwhitt is closed for avalanche control.
Kananaskis Village/Ribbon Creek/Bill Milne/Wedge Connector: Should still be in great shape, just watch for trees on the trail.
Cascade Valley was trackset on Dec 23 to the 6K bridge.
Yoho/Emerald Lake: The alluvial fan and horse trail were trackset on Dec 24.
Golden, BC: “Our trails are now all groomed and in excellent condition.”
If you’re considering skiing Ribbon Creek counter-clockwise, here’s a video I made on the 24th that will show you what to expect:
Hi Bob,
Thanks for the heads up on the categorization of Bow, I have adjusted that one now so it’s back to a natural snow trail. Banff past the meadow will be trackset tonight – it took a lot longer than expected to pack down those natural trails so our groomer didn’t get time to get that one down. Have a great day skiing everyone!
