2020 vision from up here

Sulphur Mountain. Photo by Chuck

Chuck skied up the back side of Sulphur mountain today. You can distinctly see this trail when driving on the highway, at least in the summer, I’m not sure about winter. Check out the other 17 amazing photos.

Make no mistake, this is  not a groomed trail and it looks like it has some pretty steep sections. The elevation gain is about 800 metres. That’s a couple hundred metres more than the Skogan Pass summit.

Spray River West and Goat Creek were trackset today.

Lake Louise tracksetting today: Tramline; Moraine Lake Rd; Great Divide; Lower Telemark; Townsite

Jan 3, 2019 Grooming updates

The trails at Sandy McNabb were groomed and trackset today.

Wedge Connector

The wind is taking its toll on the trails. The photo at the side is from Wedge Connector in Kananaskis. The beginner skier I took there one week ago was back for the third time today and sent me the picture. Good thing he’s using waxless skis. He also mentioned the tracks were getting glazed.

At Lake Louise, Moraine Lake road, Great Divide and Tramline were trackset today. They received 4 cm of snow last night. Helen, on her trip report, indicates that Lower Telemark was also trackset and remarked “Lower Telemark was the best I have ever seen it.”

Manfred noted that tracksetting was scheduled for Baker Creek to Morant’s Curve this evening.

It would sure be nice to see some new tracksetting on the Banff trails. It’s been 7 days since we’ve had any reports.

Confederation golf course: Jane was there today and remarked “Last nights snow shoveling elves did great work on the blue and purple trails; I am totally impressed with the subsequent packing, grooming and tracksetting. Confed is in great shape, go ski while you can.”

The trails at Sundre were trackset today and reportedly in excellent condition.

The Spring Creek trails in Cypress Hills were groomed today.

  1. Jeff, I must have just missed you on that day 35 years ago! Oh hold it, mine was 37. The single remaining firing neuron whispers to me that the road seemed endless.
Chuck, wonderful ski photo-journalism as usual.

  2. Great pictures Chuck I skied that road 35 years ago. I found a pair of Head Standard skis and mounted cable bindings so I could use my telemark boots. It was crazy fun. I seem to remember more trees on it then.
