These photos in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park were taken on Sunday by Ken Lukowiak during his hike to the Kananaskis Fire Lookout. I imagine there will be even more snow by now if the forecast was accurate.
Ken accessed the trails from Highway #40. This access is more affectionately known as “the backdoor to Pocaterra” and is available until Dec 1.
PLPP whats the word for track setting ? I cannot get anything from parks ;and i tried to phone k counrty office but I just got the phone run around have you being able to get any info ?
Jack, I’m optimistic that tracksetting will occur this winter in PLPP and possibly Ribbon Creek and Mt Shark. The government will be making an announcement in the near future.
Hopefully pocaterra warming hut will be open.
The snowfall we received last night in Canmore (15-20 cm wet snow) should provide a good base for the Canmore Nordic Centre. Colder weather and more snow is in the forecast for the week-end. When I was up there this afternoon, snow for Frozen Thunder was being trucked onto the trails at the West end near the biathlon stadium.
All this sudden excitement (or dread) about snow… any word / photos yet of Frozen Thunder at CNC?
RichieRich, Frozen Thunder is scheduled to open on Monday Oct 19. I imagine they’ll start dumping the snow tomorrow(Oct 13). Opening on a Monday is unusual. Historically, it has always opened on a Saturday.
