While Calgary was shivering at -20 today, the weather was beautiful at Ribbon Creek/Kananaskis Village. It was -8 with a big blue sky and bright sunshine. The trails had been recently groomed but had about 3 cm of fresh snow in them. We skied Terrace, Ribbon Creek, Link, Kovach, and Terrace Link. Another wonderful day in the mountains! See more photos here.
See the comments below for an update on West Bragg Creek.
Today’s trail report from Peter Lougheed Park reports mega snow:
“43 cm of snow has accumulated in the area since the 23rd of February. Higher elevation trails like those in the Elk Pass area may have close to 50 cm of fresh snow on them. Approximately 10 cm of snow lays on top of the grooming and tracksetting of the 24th and 25th. Expect to break trail on trails not groomed or trackset since the 24th. The trail crew is currently busy preparing for the Cookie Race; grooming and tracksetting is ongoing.”
I just got back to Canmore tonight after being gone for a week. I’ve never seen so much snow in my driveway! The trails at the Nordic Centre must be in great shape. The trail report for Canmore indicates 16 – 19 cm of new snow.
Bragg Creek update.
Good afterwork skiing on Sundog-Crystal Line E and W. Eight or so new cm’s on top of old tracksetting, which is still in good shape. No new grooming as yet, but I expect that it will be re-done soon.
Temp. of minus 13, at 4 pm at the trailhead.
Slow glide in the cold fresh snow.
