Horsin’ around at Canmore Nordic Centre

Conditions at the Canmore Nordic Centre were at their very best today. Sunny skies, -4°C and no wind. All the trails had natural snow, were freshly
trackset, and while a bit soft, overall I haven’t seen them any better. It was so busy, I can only guess that lots of people were playing hooky.

Snow temp was -3°C, and VR45(-2/-8) was gripping adequately. We had that warm weather on Fri and Sat, so the base under the snow was icy, but of no consequence except for the noise of your poles when planting them.  A few vestiges of the ice was showing in the tracks, but there was a veneer of snow over most of it.

At every intersection the trails looked enticing, and I skied many of them. The GPS registered 31K, probably a record distance for one day at the nordic centre for me.

The Banff trail report indicates Cascade Valley was trackset yesterday. Spray river east and west, and Goat creek were done today.

Jeff trackset the most popular trails at Ribbon creek and Kananaskis village today.

Tracksetting is ongoing in Lake Louise and Yoho. The challenge now will be to ski every freshly trackset trail before the next warming trend which looks like it will hit hard this weekend.
