Update Mar 17 at 2 pm: The snow has stopped and the wind has died down.
Mar 17 at 10:45 a.m: It’s snowing, with strong winds and blowing snow in Canmore. Poor visibility, temperature -13°C, with approx 8 cm accumulation. For road conditions, check the webcams.
Weather forecast for Kananaskis: Snow at times heavy. Local amount 10 to 15 cm.
Temperature falling to minus 14 this afternoon.
Ten minutes ago, Kananaskis Public Safety tweeted: “Field teams are reporting 25cm of new snow overnight on the Spray Road (HWY 742) near the Chester Lake trailhead. Poor driving conditions.”
The PLPP trail report indicates 6 cm of new snow overnight and still snowing. Whiskey Jack, Packers, and the upper portion of Pocaterra were trackset last night. Pocaterra hut has re-opened.
With the cooler temperatures which are forecast for the coming week, skiing conditions should be much better and more “winterlike” for a while yet.
It’s a nice day to stay inside and drink lattes and eat birthday cake(thanks, Helen!)
